Thump thump
(insert tired-ass microphone joke here)
Wow, ok.. so six months have gone by since my last post. Xanga seems to have changed a lot since then, putting the focus back on writing. That's nice, but I still wish they would make it easier for me to share the stuff that I'm doing elsewhere (sort of like what Facebook and FriendFeed let you do). Ah well.
Highlights from the recent past:
- My best pal from my Navy years came to visit over Easter weekend. Introduced him to geocaching, did a lot of hiking, ate a lot of mexican food. Good times :)
- I became a bit of a phone geek. Ok, not a total phone geek. I don't even have a particularly geeky phone. But I'm reading a couple of phone blogs now and I plan to go a bit insane when the new BlackBerry devices drop on Verizon this summer.
- Music:
- Mates of State: if there were any lingering doubts regarding my descent into indie-pop wussdom, let them go. I love this band, and I don't care who knows it. Go on, I dare you to hate them.
- Melvins: on the other hand, rock. ROCK!
- Neutral Milk Hotel: this was one of those "I check them out one of these days" groups that I kept not checking out, until one of those days when I did. Maybe it's an acquired taste, but the fact that I went a full decade without this music in my life makes me sad.
- Bon Iver: long-lost Monsur recommended Bon Iver to me a while ago, but for some reason it just didn't stick. Later, I heard "Brackett, WI" on Dark Was The Night and came to my senses. Amazing stuff. :)
- Still loving my job, and still unabashedly grateful that I have it.
- Bought an elliptical exercise machine, using it faithfully and starting to see some results.
- Have been catching up with a lot of old friends on Facebook
I guess that's about it. Not much to show for six months of living, but at least I'm alive.

Son of Return To Cabinetlandia: The Revenge
(This time, it's personal.)
Just had a nice visit from Homer! He's been wanting to see the Cabinet thing, so we drove out there to have a look.
We got a better look at the junk in the drawer!

Also, I had a couple of revelations about some of the things I mentioned in the video in my last entry:
- The "shitty diaper" was actually a "waterlogged roll of toilet paper". But hey, it was really hard to tell without getting a closer look, which I got when I decided to take it out to throw it away.
- The first "burial ground" was actually the designated toilet area.
It's weird that I got all of the toilet-related stuff wrong, but I won't dwell on it.

Return to Cabinetlandia
Back in March 2006, I visited Cabinetlandia after stumbling across it in a random article on the interwebs. I had some downtime yesterday afternoon, so I decided to trek out there once more to see what's changed. It's doing about as well as can be expected for an unmaintained metal filing cabinet exposed to the elements for four years...
